The 323 Area Code Location is a telephone area code in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for the southeastern portion of Los Angeles County, California, including the cities of Los Angeles, Montebello, Whittier, and East Los Angeles. It was created in 1998 as a split from the 213 area code. The 323 area code covers an area of approximately 120 square miles and has a population of over 2.6 million people. It is bordered by the 310 and 213 area codes to the west and north, respectively, and the 562 and 626 area codes to the south and east, respectively.
