World of Warcraft - Item Upgrading Item upgrading allows players to increase an item's gear score up to 700 and also add an additional perk. Items can be upgraded if they are in your inventory and you bring them to the Kiln. Certain items can be upgraded to increase their stats (like an ideally rolled breakpoint armour used in melee PvP) while other items, such as weapons do not vary greatly post upgrade, and therefore aren't worth upgrading.
