BACKGROUND Chronic inflammation associated with delayed diabetic wound healing is induced by disturbed polarization of macrophages derived mainly from predisposed progenitor cells in bone marrow. Docosahexaenoic acid plays a critical role in regulating the function of macrophage progenitor cells. The authors evaluated whether docosahexaenoic acid accelerates diabetic wound healing in rats.
