Rescue Dogs For Adoption

Companion Paws Canada, part of The LifeLine Canada Foundation, supports Canadians in need by rescuing, training, and pairing **rescue dogs for adoption** with individuals who would benefit from a therapy companion. Through the Companion Paws Personal Therapy-Dog Adoption Program, the first of its kind in Canada since 2017, these rescue dogs are matched with their new owners based on personality and temperament. Both dogs and adopters undergo a thorough intake assessment, and Companion Paws provides skills training to ensure a successful partnership. After completing training and passing evaluations, the new therapy team is certified and receives official Companion Paws Canada identification and registration.

Visiting Therapy Dog Program

TLC’s Companion Paws Visiting Therapy Dog Program provides therapeutic visits to groups in need of comfort and care from our trained and certified therapy dogs. Currently, we are unable to offer individual visits in private homes.

Visiting Therapy Dogs typically attend events, shelters, hospitals, schools, hospices, nursing homes, and other public spaces. Unlike service dogs, therapy dogs are encouraged to interact with various people while on duty. Our dedicated team carefully selects dogs that thrive in social settings, offering unconditional love and support wherever it’s needed. To request a visit from our Certified Visiting Therapy Dog Teams, please contact us.

Personal Therapy Dog Adoption Program

The Companion Paws Canada Personal Therapy Dog Adoption Program offers a unique opportunity to adopt pre-trained rescue dogs that provide emotional support and improve mental wellness. This program pairs individuals with temperament-assessed dogs based on their specific needs. Each dog undergoes obedience training, while the adopter receives guidance on further training. To apply, individuals must provide a recommendation letter from a licensed mental health professional and, if renting, a landlord's permission letter. Upon successful completion, adopters receive certification, and the dog becomes a designated therapy dog, enhancing the emotional well-being of its owner.
