This study determined how well the "perceived spectrum," estimated using a pitch similarity rating method, reflected the spectrum and pitch of seven different tonal sounds. The perceived spectrum well-matched the acoustic spectrum for pure tones ranging from 1 to 12 kHz, it also matched the broad frequency range for two complex tones with periodicity pitches of 1 and 2 kHz, but it did not reflect the pitch of the complex tones. These results suggest that while this method may not measure the pitch of sounds, it may be useful for measurin
