World of Warcraft - Item Upgrading Item upgrading allows players to increase the gear score of an item up to 700 and also add a final perk. Items can be upgraded if they're in your inventory and you take them to the kiln. Certain items can be upp'd for their unique stats (like a perfectly rolled breakpoint armour used in melee PvP) while others like weapons do not vary greatly post upgrade, and therefore aren't worth upgrading.
