Monoamine oxidases (MAOs), a class of enzymes bound to the outer mitochondrial membrane, are important sources of reactive oxygen species. Increased MAO-A activity in endothelial cells and cardiomyocytes contributes to vascular dysfunction and progression of left heart failure.
