To first determine whether mitochondrial stress was necessary for SNc degeneration, mice were treated with the mitochondrial antioxidant mitoTEMPO. Chronic meth-induced SNc degeneration was prevented by mitoTEMPO thereby confirming the necessity of mitochondrial stress.
