casting defects
There are pores on the surface or inside of the casting. They are round, oval, or irregular in shape. Sometimes, multiple pores form air masses.
Usually the subcutaneous is pear-shaped. Choke holes are irregular in shape and rough in surface. Air pockets are smooth grooves in the surface of a casting.
Visible pores can be found by visual inspection. Subcutaneous stomata can only be found after machining.
