Cruise Checklist: A Guide to Passport Requirements for Cruises
If you don't have a passport and want to travel internationally, cruising is a great option. Do you need a passport to cruise? It depends. Some closed-circuit cruises do not require a passport.
What is a Closed Circuit Cruise?
Closed-circuit refers to a cruise that is defined by Customs Border Control (USA) and the United States. It is an ocean or river trip that begins and ends in the U.S. Port. Closed-circuit cruises depart from and return to the Port of Miami. Closed-circuit cruises allow you to travel to Mexico, Canada, or the Caribbean.
If the cruise departs from Miami and returns to Los Angeles, a U.S. Passport will be required. Closed-circuit cruises do not require passports. Proof of citizenship and identification is required for all travelers.
