Trump Faces $83.3 million judgment in E. Jean Carroll Case
Former President Donald J. Trump has been ordered to pay $83.3 million to author E. Jean Carroll for defaming him in 2019, when she accused him of decades-old rape. Carroll's lawyers argued that a significant award was necessary to prevent Trump from continuing to attack her. The jury awarded E. Jean Carroll $65 million in punitive damages, saying Trump had acted with malice. In addition, $18.3 million was awarded as compensatory damages for his suffering.
