Southwest Airlines does not have assigned seats; instead, it has an open seating policy. Individuals board in groups, Southwest Airlines Seat Selection Policy with the order of check-in determining the boarding locations within each group. Your seat preference and boarding position will be more favorable the earlier you check in. First to board are the "A" group, then "B" and "C." Southwest has an automatic check-in process called EarlyBird Check-In, which is available 36 hours prior to the trip, if you would rather guarantee a spot on the aircraft early. After boarding the aircraft, passengers are free to choose any seat, including those with extra legroom and windows.
