In phase 1, in those without ILA, a 5% increase in emphysema was associated with a reduction in FVC (-110 cc, 95% confidence interval [CI] -121, -100; P0.0001) however, in those with ILA it was not (-11cc, 95% CI -53,31; P=0.59). In contrast, there was no interaction between ILA and emphysema on total lung capacity (TLC) nor on diffusing capacity of carbon monoxide (DLCO).
